Fiori, cose, persone...A photographic collective at III Symposium of contemporary art in Scampia, Napoli

Four artists' works about vision of life on women and things presented inside the III Symposium of contemporary art of Scampia, Naples.

Patrizia Di Siro, though black and white shots, talks about the beauty sense that still remain in withering flowers; a metaphor of women's life, whose beauty ling on beyond the elapse of time, as the beauty is in every place, it needs only wish to see it.

Anja Mattila Tolvanen, uses her camera like a lens, toi catch little details in the wide finnish landscapes. A careful research that force to pay attention on the beauty of partiality.

Gianmario Masala, presents some photographs taken inside a psico-phisic disabled institute. Reality of youngs that face life from a very particular point of view is dramatic showed through use of multiple layer of textures.

Antonella Prota Giurleo, Will project a dvd: "Mani dicenti", containing pictures taken between India and Italia. Women's hands, gestures of female knowledge taken from everyday life and artworks, re-ordered in a sequence referred to the lapse of a day.

On the nexth wednesday 1st of June will take place in Rönnvikin viinitila (Rönnvik wine-estate), Hämeenlinnantie 270, FI-36660 Laitikkala, Finland, the exhibition "Harmonia" of the artists Antonella Prota Giurleo and Gianmario Masala and the poetry of Anja Mattila Tolvanen.

The expo is about the collages of abstract art by Antonella and the reworks projected on big size screen by Gianmario is a sort of collaboration, to give to the visitors the experience of multiplies performances.

The duration is from 1st of june to 31th of august 2011 and the opening will be at 6.00 pm with readings of poems by Anja Mattila, that will be also the curator of the expo and introduce it with the help of Paul Tiilila.

I really liked the works of Antonella for "Armonia" and i was very lucky she proposed me to collaborate giving my inerpretation of her artworks through my digital elaborations. The pieces are 34 and i will post soon some of them and also the slideshow called "Harmonia Reworks".

Among the initiatives to celebrate the year 2010 as “European year of voluntary services promoting active citizens”, the Symposium project, proposed by Foundation Istituto Sacra Famiglia, in partnership with Mo.V.I., Ciessevi and Comune of Cesano Boscone, sees the participation of 20 artists (men and women) for a cultural route shared among users, Sacra Famiglia operators and Cesano territory.

The aim of this project is to realize activities inside and outside the Foundation to stimulate a larger exchange between citizens and disabled people as well as a greater mutual sense of belonging.

Artists, not accidentally coming from the European territory, will elaborate their works inside the Institute

and will lead artistic laboratories open to disabled people, to their reference operators as well as to some

Some time ago Foundation Sacra Famiglia started a new cultural project, titled “Affrettati piano: il tempo

dell’arte incontra il tempo del cuore (Hurry up slowly: art time meets heart time)”, with a series of artistic,

musical, theatrical and cultural events, further to specific rehabilitative activities (Arts therapies) devoted to

guests of different divisions. These events are promoted by Foundation Sacra Famiglia with the aim to assert

and give visibility to rights and dignity of people having cognitive disability and/or psychic trouble through

their participation and active integration.

Among the initiatives to celebrate the year 2010 as “European year of voluntary services promoting active

At conclusion of this Symposium a first exhibition of the realized works, open to all citizens, will be done at

The project objectives are as follows:

- In an hypothesis of interaction, the meeting of people with human and cultural different routes to

promote the mutual enriching (artists, employees and ISF guests, Cesano citizens)

- Through the examination of works ( realized in laboratories), to analyse creative possibilities of the

ISF guests

- To enable meeting and comparison between different artistic and linguistic expressions and local

culture

- To enable ISF guests to take possession of fresh creative artistic expressions

- To promote and make easier the comprehension process of contemporary arts to employees and ISF

guests as well as to Cesano citizens

- To gather an adequate photographic documentation concerning symposium experiences, in order to

propose it externally on different occasions (meetings, seminars, conventions, reports on web sites,

articles in Italy and abroad).

Works realized during this Symposium will be exhibited at Foundation Sacra Famiglia, Comune of Cesano

Boscone as well as at House of Volunteers (now under construction), thanks to Ciessevi and Comune of

Milan.

Furthermore during the fall a collective exhibition of all works will be realized in Milan.

In concomitance with the Symposium of Contemporary Art, which will take place at the Fondazione Sacra

Famiglia in Cesano Boscone between 15th and 22nd May, 2011, the Associations ACLI – Il Sogno – Bem

Viver and Galassia organize a meeting with three female and one male artists attending this symposium.

Each artist will present his/her experience gained in connection with people or communities through

relations and images.

Zsuzsanna Ardo, an Anglo-Hungarian artist, photographed several Rom communities in Europe on behalf of

Amnesty International. Collected photos show the search for beauty done by visited communities as well as

by a personal artist’s search.

Isabel Jover and Cesar Reglero Campos, a couple of Spanish artists, will present results of a mail art

convocation having mental trouble as subject.

Rosanna Veronesi, an Italian artist, working as volunteer at the Casa di Gastone in Milan, will expound

phases of mutual work in artistic laboratories lead by experts and intended for guests.

Antonella Prota Giurleo, Italian artist and curatrix, will project and comment images concerning creative

experiences had with detained women in female prisons (Chiorillos in Lima and Bollate close to Milan).

For oral interventions of Zsuzsann Arda, who will speak English, of Cesar Reglero Campos and Isabel Jover,

who will speak Spanish, simultaneous translations are warranted.

The Symposium of Contemporary Art is organized at the Fondazione Sacra Famiglia in Cesano Boscone

with the cooperation of Comune of Cesano Boscone (Assessorship for Social Services),Mo.Vi and ciessevi.

Una mostra, composta da due mostre, che partono da un presupposto comune: la consegna

alle artiste e agli artisti di qualcosa da esaminare, da trasformare.

Nel primo caso ( la mostra fotografica organizzata dalla Camera del Lavoro Metropolitana di

Milano) il “qualcosa” consegnato è il luogo stesso dell’agire della CGIL. Un luogo che è stato

visitato, studiato, indagato nelle sue forme e nelle persone che lo vivono e restituito alla

visione collettiva da parte di ventotto tra fotografe e fotografi.

Nella seconda ipotesi (la mostra di libri d’artista proposta da Agesol e realizzata in

collaborazione con la CGIL milanese) un testo, La custode, è stato trasformato dalle mani di

ventitre tra artiste e artisti. Non a caso il testo è di Sonia Savioli, fotografa ufficiale della

Camera del lavoro dal 1981 al 1986.

Imparafacile e l'arte virtuale in metrò

Accademia di Brera, Comune di Milano e ATM unite per l'arte digitale

L'arte virtuale torna protagonista della vita reale milanese, grazie a un'iniziativa promossa dall'Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, in collaborazione con ATM ed il Dipartimento Indaco del Politecnico di Milano, che aveva avuto la sua prima sperimentazione nel luglio scorso e ora si avvia verso una produzione più strutturata.

Il progetto è nato in seno al Master di secondo livello denominato MIND (Milan Network for Design), attivato nell'aprile scorso dall'Accademia di Belle Arti milanese, sotto la direzione del prof. Ezio Cuoghi. Si tratta di un corso di formazione che ha l'obiettivo di formare nuove figure professionali capaci di progettare interventi artistici, culturali e di servizio, negli ambiti e negli spazi relazionali di una città, coniugando le competenze sulle nuove tecnologie alla progettualità estetica e artistica dei nuovi linguaggi. Di qui l'attenzione dei docenti, primo fra tutti il responsabile informatico Bruno Aliprandi, verso i mondi virtuali, con le loro potenzialità sia a livello artistico che didattico e organizzativo. E così già nel luglio scorso alcune opere di corsisti erano state proiettate nella metropolitana milanese, accanto a opere di "artisti puramente virtuali" (Prajna Seetan e Christian Rexie), molto noti all'interno della piattaforma di SecondLife e particolarmente creativi nell'utilizzo di questo mezzo espressivo.

Dopo questa prima fase più sperimentale e in sordina, ora Brera torna a guardare verso SecondLife con un progetto più articolato che prevederà uno spazio dedicato ai corsisti all'interno del Metaverso, ove possano lavorare ed esporre le proprie opere, che saranno poi diffuse tramite i video della Metrò milanese nelle stazioni di Porta Venezia e Porta Garibaldi. Referente SecondLife del progetto è Giovanni Dalla Bona (aka Imparafacile Runo in Second Life), formatore che usa da tempo questo mezzo per scopi didattici e di divulgazione culturale. Suo è lo spazio messo a disposizione dell'Accademia, per il quale ha fatto realizzare dall'artista virtuale Merlino Mayo una struttura di grande impatto ispirata proprio alla collaborazione con Brera, deonominata "Concordia 2.0".

E saranno proprio foto relative a questa struttura ad aprire la nuova tornata di contenuti che potremo visionare sugli schermi delle stazioni ATM, accanto a altre serie di foto e di video tratti da una grande manifestazione organizzata nel Metaverso il 25 novembre scorso. In quella data, infatti, diverse gallerie virtuali di Second Life, hanno voluto unire la loro voce al coro di solidarietà generale alzatosi durante la Giornata Internazionale contro la violenza sulla donna. L'evento, denominato 2LEI, ha visto dieci istallazioni artistiche organizzate per l'occasione, che ora saranno visibili sugli schermi della metro attraverso le foto degli artisti coinvolti o i video delle istallazioni immersive realizzate.

In questa prima fase ci saranno le foto dell'artista Gianmario Masala, per il gruppo Arte Libera e la collettiva di vari fotografi del Metaverso proposta per il gruppo 2LifePhotos.

Sette artiste brasiliane e sette tra artiste ed artisti italiani , si confrontano in un rincorrersi di immagini e in uno scambio di visioni molto stimolanti.

Un gioco di parole per riprendere i temi sui quali, elaborando testi pubblicati dalla casa editrice Archinto, uno appunto sul lavoro e l’altro sull’amore, le artiste e gli artisti hanno giocato al recupero utilizzando sia la modalità del celare ossia impacchettando e nascondendo), che quella dello svelare, illustrando le sensazioni provate attraverso immagini fotografiche.

Dvd Il Parco Agricolo Sud Milano

Due artisti, uno, Mirko Bozzato, attraverso un reportage su una zona incredibilmente salva a livello naturale nelle immediate adiacenze della città di Milano, l’altro, Gianmario Masala, attraverso l’elaborazione delle immagini del primo, ci restituiscono il senso di una natura lavorata e sognata.

Progetto circolare Una partecipazione particolare ad una convocazione di Mail art sul tema Acqua bene comune: una serie di piccole cartoline realizzate in serigrafia. Le cartoline sono il risultato del PROJETO CIRCULAR, un progetto nato nel 2008 all’università di Rio Grande do Sul, progetto al quale partecipano studenti ed ex studenti, docenti e artisti invitati.

Tomorrow 3th of november 2010 opening of the collective of art in Gallaratese Library, in Milano: "the writing of art". The collective will be there until 30th of november: curator is Antonella Prota Giurleo and artworks are from Fernanda Fedi, Antonella Prota Giurleo, Antonio Sormani and Franco Tripodi. Readings by Daniela Aronica e Loretta Lo Giudice. Visiting time: monday to friday 9.30 am - 9.30 pm, wednesday morning closed, saturday 9.30 am - 7.30 pm.

The expo comes from the passion for the "written paper" and books of the artists, so their pieces speak the language of art.

Fernanda Fedi usually create her artworks with signs referred to the the origin of writing itself, in a fascinating way of expression and beautiful results.

Antonio Sormani in his painting is looking for a relation between form and object, a balance between abstraction and figure (see the report of another personal of Antonio in this post).

Franco Tripodi created in 1993 an alphabet where every symbol correspond to a letter: captivated by this, now he uses a reworking of this process on signs in his artistic works.

Antonella Prota is able to find her inspiration to create in everything she sees: brushes, objects, photographs, paper, abandoned stuff and so on, coming to get a painting but also a collage or an installation, often in unexpected result. Here she used old books from the library to build artist's book and geometrical forms: something new and somehow creative.

Amo profondamente leggere, amo i libri e le tracce di scrittura sui fogli, amo osservare alfabeti sconosciuti e scoprire la bellezza delle forme, amo le biblioteche, quelle pubbliche, soprattutto, ma anche quelle private. Entrando in una casa l’occhio mi corre intorno e mi ritrovo ad osservare quadri e a scorrere i titoli dei libri accarezzandone il dorso, gioendo nello scoprire in biblioteche di amiche e di amici libri che mi sono stati o mi sono compagni.

Accumulo da sempre carta scritta, mi è impossibile entrare in una libreria o in biblioteca ed uscire, nonostante la determinazione iniziale, senza almeno un libro in mano. Non posso pensare che un libro possa essere buttato o destinato al macero, così recupero, recupero, recupero… e accumulo, accumulo, accumulo.

Questa passione, che talvolta sfocia nella fissazione, è diventata spunto per questa mostra su La scrittura dell’arte. Un titolo suggerito da Franco Tripodi che mi sembra restituisca il senso del legame profondo che unisce l’una all’altra, e non solo perchè le prime forme di scrittura erano ideogrammi, né perchè la pittura ha costituito per secoli l’unica forma di conoscenza e sapere per le classi escluse dall’istruzione, ma per la sapienza che sottende l’una e l’altra, sapienza che sa coniugare sapere e saper fare, così nella scrittura come nella pittura e in tutti i linguaggi visivi.

Ho pensato che sarebbe stato interessante mettere a confronto, a partire dal comune amore per la lettura e per la scrittura, il modo attraverso il quale Fernanda Fedi, Antonio Sormani, Franco Tripodi ed io esprimiamo queste passioni attraverso il linguaggio dell’arte.

Esponendo le nostre opere in una biblioteca, naturalmente: la biblioteca Gallaratese, una biblioteca che amo, come tante altre, ma nella quale trovo quel di più di disponibilità e di competenza che mi fanno sentire a casa.

Fernanda Fedi utilizza abitualmente segni che si riferiscono a scritture o che ne costituiscono l’alfabeto. Segni che riportano all’antico, all’archetipo stesso della scrittura e alle sue origini, in un continuum di tempo e di spazio che riporta alla magia di una modalità di espressione e di comunicazione che affascina sia per la bellezza dei segni che per la sapienza dell’invenzione.

Antonio Sormani indaga, attraverso la pittura, il rapporto tra forma e oggetto in una ricerca di equilibrio sospeso tra figurazione e astrazione. Chi osserva può, attraverso il suo personale ricordo di forme, ridefinire il soggetto dipinto. Tracce di scrittura, lettere talvolta accostate per ragioni puramente estetiche e brevi frasi inserite nella composizione rimandano ad una conoscenza e ad un sapere collettivo delle proprietà della scrittura anche quando questa risulta incomprensibile.

Franco Tripodi nel 1993 ha inventato, per gioco, un alfabeto per comunicare in codice; un alfabeto nel quale ad ogni simbolo corrisponde una lettera. Il gioco, come spesso accade, ha quasi costretto l’artista, ammaliato dalla bellezza dei segni, ad un’analisi profonda e ad una rielaborazione dei segni che sono divenuti parte integrante del suo lavoro artistico.

In questa biblioteca mi sono stati messi a disposizione libri destinati al macero, libri che ho trasformato in libri d’artista o in forme geometriche, che ho sepolto sotto la cenere o sotto la stoffa del burka. Anche nelle situazioni più difficili, come in carcere o laddove alle donne viene vietato l’accesso all’istruzione, la scrittura è stata ed è sinonimo e motivo di sopravvivenza.

I'm very late with the reports of all the expos we announced here but finally there the mail art initiative about water that have been place on last 2th of june 2010.

As I ve already said in the first article many people sent their works and as u can see they were settled up open air.

There were also my photographic composition "water is life", that you can see below, among the others

The were also some works made by Mari Jana Pervan and Veronica Menni.
As you know the theme of the artistic event was the law about privatization of the water service supplies by the italian government. In many regions of Italy the local authorities have refused the privatization process and affirmed the same as the UE Parliament and modified their statutes to protect water as a good common.

So that day there were also a meeting with some personalities from the local government city of Corsico, provincia of Milano and journalists to explain how the new national law works and how to contrast it: really an interesting event for all the people living in the area, beside all the artworks in exposition.

Sono molto in ritardo con tutti i report delle mostre qui annunciate, ma infine ecco l'iniziativa di mail art sull'acqua come bene comune, che ha avuto luogo lo scorso 2 giugno 2010. Come già scritto nel primo articolo moltissimi artisti hanno inviato il loro lavoro and come si può vedere dalle foto sono stati posizionati all'aria...letteralmente appesi. C'era anche la mia composizione fotografica “Water is life”, come potete vedere qui di seguito, tra gli altri. Oltre a tute le opere arrivate erano esposte anche opere di Mirko Bozzato, Gretel Feher e Loredana Scarian, ed installazioni di Mari Jana Pervan e Veronica Menni.
Come sapete il tema dell'evento artistico era la recente legge del governo italiano a proposito di privatizzazione del servizio di fornitura acqua pubblica. In molte regioni italiane le autorità locali hanno rifiutato la privatizzazione e affermato il principio stabilito dal parlamento europeo di acqua come bene comune per l'umanità.
Così quel giorno c'è stato anche un incontro con alcune personalità locali della città di Corsico e della Provincia di Milano, oltre ad alcuni giornalisti per esporre e spiegare gli aspetti della legge ed i modi per contrastarla: davvero un interessante evento per la gente del luogo, oltre alla bellezza delle opere esposte.

Looks on the Territory: farm park south Milan/Sguardi sul Territorio: il parco agricolo sud Milano

On next 9th of september opening of my personal exhibition, with my friend Mirko Bozzato photographer and graphic designer, 7.00 pm at Gheroartè, “laboratori di espansione creativa” (warehouses of creativity expansion), in Corsico (Milano, Italy). "Looks on the territory: farm park south Milano" is the title/theme of the expo. Farm park of south Milano is a reality Mirko and I both appreciate the biggest green area of Milano: a beautiful reality that need to be protected by building speculation. The expo is about a collaboration between us ...we are really friends since we were kids and he started to take pictures about the awesome landscapes there during last two last years: i proposed him to re-work with my style on his photos. The prints of Mirko's photographs will be show on some standings, mine will be project on a screen in big size; i also create a playlist selection of ambient and micro-electronic music from North Europe bands like Sigur Ros, Lali Puna, Mum, Notwist King of Convenience and so on: I found them good to give the right support to the images.

Im very glad finally i made a big work on landscapes images, trying to give them a sense of dramatic force to represent all the pressure by the building interests around the park-area: the idea is use my textures to show a hidden dark side that could break the peace and the beauty of this place.

Il prossimo 9 settembre alle 19.00 inaugurazione (con assaggi di prodotti del parco Sud distribuiti da Buon Mercato di Corsico) della mostra fotografica mia e di Mirko Bozzato, fotografo e grafico, presso Gheroartè- laboratori di espansione creativa c/o Ex Stazione F.S. di Corsico, via Gramsci 4, Corsico (MI) tel/fax 02/45103113 - 349/4759779-333/4333040. Il tema/titolo della mostra fotografica è "Sgurdi sul territorio: il parco agricolo sud Milano", una realtà che io e Mirko aprrezziamo molto e che va protetta dalle spinte di speculazione edilizia. L'esposizione nasce come collaborazione tra di noi....siamo amici da motlissimi anni e Mirko negli ultimi due anni si è soffermato su questa area verde percorrendola e fotografandola con un occhio sempre attento e ispirato. Così gli ho proposto/chiesto di poter lavorare con il mio personale editing di post-produzione sui suoi lavori. Le stampe delle foto di Mirko saranno esposte in un allestimento di tipo standings e le mie ri-elaboarazioni saranno proiettate su un grande schermo; mi sono occupato della "colonna sonora" compilando una playlist di bands nord-europee quali Sigur Ros, Lali Puna, Mum, Notwist King of Convenience e così via, che penso possano dare il giusto risalto alle foto. Sono molto contento di aver finalmente lavorato su immagini di paesaggi, cercando di dar loro un senso di drammaticità a rappresentare le forze e le spinte degli interessi speculativi, non ultimo l'Expo Universale di Milano del 2015: l'idea è usare le terxture e l'editing cercando di cogliere un lato oscuro che getta un'ombra di rottura sulla pace e la bellezza di questo polmone verde.

Mirko Bozzato e Gianmario Masala hanno lavorato a partire da una realtà apprezzata da entrambi , il Parco Agricolo Sud Milano. Un parco enorme che si estende da ovest ad est circondando la città e che costituisce un grande polmone verde per Milano e per il suo territorio. Entrambi gli autori ritengono che il parco debba essere protetto dalle ipotesi di edificazione e dalla speculazione.

Mirko Bozzato ha realizzato, in due anni di lavoro, una serie di fotografie a colori e
in bianco e nero. In diverse ore della giornata e in differenti stagioni il fotografo ha
indagato, muovendosi in bicicletta dalla sua abitazione di Gaggiano, la zona sud ovest
del parco Agricolo, affascinato da un territorio, scoperto per caso.
In mostra, come descrive il fotografo “Un piccolo ritratto di un territorio urbano
unico, che va conservato gelosamente per tutto quello che regala a chi lo incontra. Un
territorio fatto di terra, acqua, lavoro, storie….. che spero di riuscire a trasmettere a
chi le guarderà, insieme a un po’ di curiosità che potrebbe spingere tutti a visitarlo”
Nato a Milano nel 1963, dopo il Liceo artistico Mirko Bozzato si è occupato di grafica
editoriale, di immagine e di web. Attualmente svolge l’attività di grafico all’Università
Bocconi di Milano e collabora come Art Director free lance con diverse case editrici di
Milano e provincia. Appassionato da sempre di fotografia ha tenuto i suoi scatti “nel
cassetto” fino a circa un anno fa, quando casualmente li ha fatti vedere e gli è stato
consigliato di condividerli.

Gianmario Masala, artista digitale e fotografo, con importanti esperienze in
campo musicale e cinematografico, di professione architetto, ha lavorato nel Design
internazionale con Alchimia (in collaborazione con Alessandro Mendini), e di incarichi
nel settore delle opere pubbliche e dell’ edilizia scolastica in provincia di Milano e in
Regione Lombardia. Utilizza da sempre il mezzo fotografico come ausilio per il suo
lavoro. Nella sua attività di ricerca fotografica sia dal punto di vista dell’esecuzione di scatti
che da quello della rielaborazione digitale, è maggiormente interessato alle persone
piuttosto che ai paesaggi.

Guerra e pace di Tolstoj fu pubblicata quasi 150 anni fa.

La guerra di Napoleone finiva quasi 200 anni fa.

La Seconda guerra mondiale finiva 65 anni fa.

Le guerre del mondo, quella di 30 anni, quella di 100 anni, le guerre del secolo ventesimo, chiamato BREVE (Hobsbawm)

perchè il suo tempo è stato consunto dalle guerre, compresa La Guerra fredda in tempi di pace. Insomma, guerra non-stop.

La "sposina sbagliata" a Milano

Today at 5.00 pm in Milano, in the A Oriente! publishing house place, Piazza Wagner 1, there it will be another display of the "la sposina" collective of artists' book. Here the original text from the press release of the curators:

Il destino di un errore
“Se un errore ha sconquassato, devastato, distrutto la tua vita … bene, ripeti quell’errore.”
In un’epoca dove niente sembra aver più il potere di sorprendere e stupire, il nostro sguardo non può fare a meno di posarsi su ciò che appare differente, speciale: l’errore, con la sua imprevedibilità, ci regala un’emozione.
Il destino non è mai gentile con gli errori, spesso li attende impietoso il Cestino. Per una volta, il destino di un errore è stato fiabesco, filosofico, spirituale, ironico: alcune copie “sbagliate” di “La Sposina”, racconto indiano di Citra Mudgal, pubblicato dalla nostra casa editrice A Oriente! per la traduzione italiana di Alessandra Consolaro, sono state trasformate in arte.
Per ringraziare Antonella Prota Giurleo, coordinatrice dell’iniziativa, le artiste e gli artisti per questa preziosa riflessione sulla trasformazione e sulla chance curiosa che abbiamo di poter sbagliare, dopo l’esposizione presso l’Università degli Studi di Torino, la casa editrice “A Oriente!”, nata per dialogare con le culture orientali, invita nella propria redazione ad ammirare la mostra di Libri d’Artista ispirati alle copie sbagliate de “La Sposina”.

Succede che una splendida donna, Anna Schoenstein, ideatrice e direttrice di un’altrettanto splendida casa editrice, A Oriente! comunichi a un’artista, tra una chiacchiera e l’altra, di avere alcune copie sbagliate di un libro.
Il testo, La sposina di Citrā Mudgal, tradotto dalla lingua hindi da Alessandra Consolaro, è un piccolo gioiello.
Naturalmente il volume è stato poi pubblicato nel formato e con la copertina corretta ma sarebbe un peccato che, per un errore di tipografia, le copie sbagliate restassero in magazzino.
Così l’artista, che è anche curatrice, propone ad altre artiste e ad alcuni artisti di elaborare un’opera a partire da un errore. Si tratta di donne e di uomini che amano la lettura, l’arte, la poesia, la musica; tutte, tutti avranno cura del piccolo testo e lo restituiranno diverso nella sua preziosità.

Tomorrow 3th of June 6.00 pm at Gheroartè, “laboratori di espansione creativa” (warehouses of creativity expansion), in Corsico (Milano, Italy), exhibition of the installations done using two piece: a metallic cilinder and a cardboard half box.

The event is about to make art recycling un-used pieces or trash (go to see the ArteAmbiente_2010 post: many artists' artworks displayed there (and mine too). I will report about the event as soon as possible!

Artisti per la Salute (Artist for Health), a collective exhibition in Milano

Between 4th and 15 of May, there was a collective expo with the partecipation of about 160 artists from all over the world: It took place at Derbylius Gallery, via P. Custodi 16 Milano. Everyone of them will donate an artwork that will be exposed (after the exhibition) at Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milano, via Venezian, 1.

La Sposina sbagliata, collective artist's book exhibition

I'm very glad to announce that i will partecipate at the collective expo "La sposina sbagliata" ("the wrong bride") on next 5th of May in Torino, about at 1-2 hours from Milano. The expo will take place at the University of Study of Torino Oriental Cultures Department at 2.30 pm till 4.00 pm, project by Antonella Prota Giurleo and organization by Alessandra Consolaro (professor of Hindi language and culture at Torino's University) and Anna Schoenstein (director of A Oriente! publishing house).

"Il destino di un errore

Un errore. Una svista tipografica, uno scambio di copertine. Semplicemente, qualcuno si è sbagliato.

In una cultura che ammette solo la banalità della perfezione, senza essere più capace di riconoscere il fascino di ciò che non è perfetto e l’emozione dell’imprevedibilità, l’errore diventa la magnifica distinzione, la grande originalità che si trasforma in arte. Libri che non avevano altra destinazione che il macero sono diventati musa ispiratrice per una mostra di Libri d’Artista: … torri scolpite di errori, echi di album della sposa, bomboniere in bilico tra Oriente e Occidente, opere di pura astrazione, immaginario occidentale e la quintessenza dello sbaglio: un artista che smarrisce un’opera sull’errore.

"Il libro in carta è defunto. W il libro!”, come se si parlasse di una religione “nuova” che va a sostituirne una “vecchia”: nell’epoca che decreta la fine della carta stampata e l’affermarsi di innovativi sistemi di lettura - o meglio, di nuovi mercati - fortemente inquinanti e solo apparentemente liberalizzanti, essere responsabili di ogni foglio di carta stampata, prendersi cura delle pagine d’inchiostro è una sorta di impegno morale.

“A Oriente!”, una casa editrice di lingue orientali, un’esperienza tra gli alfabeti dell’Oriente e una riflessione, anche questa del tutto orientale sul Caso e il Destino.

Una mostra dedicata all’amore per i libri e certo anche al destino, ma soprattutto alle meravigliose opportunità che ci dona la capacità, teneramente umana, di commettere errori.

Antonio Sormani, the landscape's memories

On last Saturday 10th of April i went to the vernissage of "Landscape's memory" (Memoria del Paesaggio), exhibition of paintings with artworks by Antonio Sormani and Ernesto Saracchi.The expo takes place at Sala La Pianta di Corsico (Milano) till next april 25th, arranged by Rotary Club Corsico Naviglio Grande and Banco di Celestino, 7th edition of Sprinstime in Corsico. I won't focus on Saracchi's works but on Antonio Sormani's. As Antonio said: " I never paint live from reality. I paint from memory cause what i remember is selective and keeps only what stricken more my unconscious."

Sabato scorso sono stato al vernissage di Memoria del Paesaggio, mostra di pittura con lavori di Antonio Sormani ed Ernesto Saracchi. L'esposizione è al Saloncino La Pianta di Corsico (Milano ) fino al prossimo 25 aprile, organizzata dal Rotary Club Corsico Naviglio Grande e dal Banco di Celestino, per la settima edizione di primavera a Corsico.
Non mi soffermerò sui lavori di Saracchi ma su quelli di Antonio Sormani. Come Antonio ha detto: "Non dipingo mai dal vero. Dipingo a memoria percè il ricordo è selettivo e conserva solo quello che colpisce il mio inconscio".

As i know Antonio since long time (ages i could say), he is serious and rigoorous in his art and this expo shows how he is perform his concept of memory: remember something is like to see it for the first time, discover it right now....And this is the source of Antonio's inspirations: memories and not the look at the things. His oils of canvas are splitted in four squares that have the hard job of contain, keep his idea of the subject. The shadow of someone, the silhouette of a landscape... the light sign of what he draws on the canvas, founded on what he "knows" is his subject.

Conosco Antonio da molti anni (moltissimi direi), è serio e rigoroso nella sua arte e questa esposizione mostra come lui considera il concetto di memoria: ricordare qualcosa è come vederla per la prima volta, scoprirla in quel momento...E questa è la fonte della sua ispirazione: ricordi e non lo sguardo sulle cose. I suoi lavori ad olio sono suddivisi in quattro riquadri che hanno l'ardua compito di contenere, trattenere la sua idea del soggetto. L'ombra di una figura, la silouette di un paesaggio in lontananza....il segno leggero di quello che lui disegna sulle tele, basato su quello che lui "sa" essere il suo soggetto.

And this need of order, this precise boundary of his art is the "field" of the artist's meanings: fours squares like photographs. Perfect to keep inside all the emotions, the chromatic impressions, the balance... playing inside the square shape reminding of Giorgio Morandi ("di morandiana memoria.." like Lorella Giudici said), till the essential and pure and geometric squared spaces of Piet Mondrian and Kazimir Malevic.

E questo bisogno di ordine, di un confine preciso alla sua arte, è il campo dei significati dell'artista: quattro quadrati come fotografie. Perfetti per trattenere all'interno tutte le emozioni, le impressioni cromatiche, l'equilibrio....giocando con la forma quadrata di morandiana memoria, fino agli essenziali e puri spazi quadrati e geometrici di Mondrian e di Malevic.

In these four definite spaces we can see a place where compositive codes, thoughts and internal tensions of the artist try to look for a balance...and they finally do. And the artworks have the lightness of poetry.

In questi quattro spazi ben definiti possiamo vedere il posto dove i codici compositivi, i pensieri e le tensioni interne dell'artista cercano di trovare un equilibrio...e finalmente lo trovano. E le opere hanno la leggerezza della poesia.

The vernissage itself was very nice, alot of old friends and people drinking great wine and tasting goodies for about four hours, that i spent chatting, admiring the artworks and taking pictures till the end of the event.

Il vernissage è stato bello con molti vecchi amici e gente a bere un ottimo vino e spizzicare assaggini vari per almeno quattro ore, che personalmente ho trascorso chiacchierando, ammirando i lavori in mostra e scattando fotografie fino al termine dell'evento.

When all the people went home Antonio said:"lets go to have an ice cream" so we walked to downtown having a beautiful conversation about art and photography. Antonio said that the reality attitude of photography is ended with the use of Photoshop: nobody today can't say what is real or "photoshopped" on a picture and he doesn't like that. Sure i didn't agre (LOL): i love use photoshop to add "personality" to a photograph or simply leave my sign.

Quando poi sono andati tutti via Antonio ha detto: "andiamo a farci un bel gelato" e cosi abbiamo passeggiato in centro, chiacchierando amabilmente a proposito di arte e fotografia. Antonio sostiene che l'attitudine a mostrare il reale della fotografia è finita con l'avvento di Photoshop: oggigiorno è davvero difficile distinguere un immagine reale da una "photoshoppata" ...e a lui questo non piace. Di sicuro non sono d'accordo (haha): adoro usare photoshop per aggiungee personalità ad una foto a anche solo per lasciare il mio segno.

We continued till dinner time that interesting chat (talking about also photographer-artists we can follow on the net like Yell Saccani or Katia Chausheva): I have a high opinion of Antonio and his experience, so every analisys we do together helps me to grew in my artistic beliefs and in understanding...thank you!

Abbiamo continuato la nostra interessante conversazione fino ad ora di cena (parlando anche di fotografi artisti che si possono seguire in rete come Yell Saccani e Katia Chausheva): ho un'alta opinione di Antonio con la sua esperienza, quindi ogni analisi che facciamo insieme mi aiuta a crescere nelle mie convinzioni artistiche e in comprensione...Grazie!

Drawing Dreams Foundation

I'm very pleased to inform that I have been asked to partecipate with some of my images on behalf of the Drawing Dreams Foundation, a new Berkeley, California-based nonprofit organization that helps provide art supplies to children's hospitals, and other organizations where the need arises.

The website albums expose artworks done by children, as part of the Children Helping Children gallery, and artworks by visual artists, painters, photographers from all over the world, inside in Artists Helping Children gallery. The feautured art in the galleries are then printed on the notecards from Drawing Dreams, given to donors to thanks them for their support.

I am very happy to give a little contribution for a beautiful cause, with my Sentiment Series photographs You can go to see all the amazing pieces showed in the galleries. Sorrow is now display on page 1, and just in the center of the page you can find a link to my Portfolio website (and of many other wonderful artists).

On last March, 18 I partecipate to the meeting ArteAmbiente_2010 (art/ambient) at Gheroartè, “laboratori di espansione creativa” (warehouses of creativity expansion), in Corsico at Milan's door (Italy). It was about works of artists using only ecological compatible and/or re-used and/or recyclable materials. The curators of the event were Antonella Prota Giurleo, Stefania Tussi, Marco Fantasia, that showed the works by some artists, collected for the meeting, and the previous experiences of some art exhibitions all around Italy and Europe and the world.

At first Marco Fantasia exposed the life and the activities of Gheroartè, as a place for artistic and musical events, with a selected eye on some expos about recycled materials installations (Katerina Gutierrez, Michele Lorenzelli, etc.).

Then the artist Antonella Prota Giurleo referred, projecting on a screen with her laptop, about others interesting meetings and exhibitions that had taken place at Parco Sud Milano, Firenze (Florence), Gaeta, Napoli (Naples), Paris and FIAC. She also commented with the help of the present artists the amazing (or only interesting) artworks like installations, sculptures or paintings, showed on the screen.

Antonella started her presentation from the documentation themes you can see in Nature and Culture at Oltreluna to go on with the analysis about art movement of Cubism, Surrealism and the “objet trouvè”, Louse Nevelson till the Land Art and the attention to the ambient creating and making art.

Gheroartè

Also in Italy the care of the ambient in art is assuming great interest: we have the sixth edition of “RiartEco” in Firenze, “Art in ice”, "Pietrarte” and Fienarte in Livigno (curator Luca Rendina), the “Asolo Recycled Art Festival” in Asolo, Ambientarte in Gaeta,“Nonsibuttavianulla” in Genova, “ScArti” in Avellino, “la via del Fieno” a Rocca Brivio in San Giuliano Milanese and many others.

Antonella Prota Giurleo also curated by herself “Ambientare l'Arte, in 2007, a living exhibition with eco-compatible Installations at Parco Sud in Milano: a catalogue present at the Gheroartè event showed all the artworks for the invited artists.

In the rest of the world, very interesting experiences in Argentina of artists from “Trash Art” (thanks to David Acevedo and Alberto Vàzquez), that organized a beautiful place for art called “Espacio Ave Fénix” opened to the public in 2008, with “Riciclarte” exhibition.

And the beautiful artworks of FIAC, contemporary arts fair, that takes place in Paris every year in autumn at Grand Palais and Louvre, with the partecipation of many artists from all over the world.

Bianchenere art-zine

At ArtAmbiente meeting, was also introduced the Art-Zine “Bianchenere”, magazine of street art, where all the pubished artworks are on recycled paper and in black and white only, and the curators are Antonella P. G. with Gretel Fehr. The art-zine contains artworks from invited writers, visual artists, painters and photographers and is printed in limited number of copies.

Beside the presentation of all the artistic events from everywhere in Italy and abroad and of the art-zine, Antonella Prota and Stefania Tussi introduce to the public the little exhibition “Artists' books”, inside the ArteAmbiente 2010 meeting, with the art works of about a dozen artists (and myself too...grins).

"La sposina"

The idea was about to work on some mistaken prints of the book by the hindi writer Citra Mudga l “The little bride” (la sposina), published by “A Oriente!”: every artist made an artwork on a copy of the little book.

Invited artists were: Nadia Magnabosco, Marilde Magni, Gretel Fehr, Antonio Sormani, Francesco Cucci, Ruggero Maggi, Peppe di Scampia, Marco Fantasia, Stefania Tussi, Donato di Poce, Isabella Gobbato, anna Rosa Faina gavazzi, Maria Grazia Zanmarchi, Fernanda Fedi, Gino Gini, Veronica Menni, Antonella Prota Giurleo and myself, Gianmario Masala. A beautiful experience to have a confrontation with other artists on same subject, the artist's book, that have a very artistic origin started with a art movement i really love: Futurism.

The artists made interesting and various different artworks on the theme, and, as usual, I created a digital photo composition starting from some real photos taken with my Nikon and scans I did of the book, which in the end could have been the image of the never realised cover of the book.

At last, to close the meeting, Stefania Tussi, suggested to the present artists the realisation of two new artworks/installations to make with a metal cilinder and a cover of a cardboard box for the next month of june, that will be exsposed at Gheroartè during this 2010 (I will tell you about it for sure!).

Today i joined a new interesting network, The Behance Network, a platform for creative professional across many fields: design, architecture, editors, photographers, artists, copywriters etc, that can show their own portfolio. The network also gives opportunities to companies to find talent to hire (and to the creative a chance to get a job or a collaboration too).

The galleries of the other members are really amazing (some of them have also a portfolio on Flickr)....so I think this could be a good place where learn from them and get new inspirations too!

Today i have founded a new group in Flickr completely linked to my blog: it is about all that inspire me in art and photography. Clicking on the badge above you can go there. The description:

This amazing work deserves an Award

ART.digital - invite only - Post 1/Award 5

The Image you see above is the one used as award in the first flickr group i have founded, about seven months ago, with the help of some friends.

The name was ART.digital. The idea was to put together artists i usually see on Flickr comings from Secondlife, and other virtual worlds (the Sim, Home etc), with real digital artists or photographers. The plan was to create a synergy among the artists, offering the possibility to all to share ideas, thoughts and, why not, new techniques to edit a picture, using mostly photoshop or other manipulating software.

Try to share artworks that confront two very different worlds. Artworks that can offer the possibility of suggestions, developments and inspirational links to help the growth of members of both (or all)‘worlds’. This was the "mission" *smiles*.....

After seen the group start with beautiful results, I founded the other 12 groups (LOL) that could give me the coverage of any kind of "artistic" picture i could get: black and white pix, nudes, lanscapes and seascapes and so on. Yell Saccani is an artist from Israel (with peruvian origins) that creates amazing artworks with her photos and her flickr stream is really inspiring to me.

Since the first time i've seen her works i've thought about the poetry of Francis Bacon, one of my fav artist, and this was enough to get my complete attention.

The perfect use of the blurred focus and the tormented subjects of her artworks (where the model is herself and her body), with a strong presence of motion in them, make her photos like a painting.

There is also a great emotional component in her works that really can transmit to the spectator all the meanings the picture contains. Her visions are disturbing maybe, but you can't ignore them, they are strong and they look very instinctive: you can feel her needs to MAKE that photo.

Yell looks like she can't do anything else than express herself in that powerful and involving way. In every different work she gets a different interesting result, and this why I can't wait to see her new picture again, and again and again....

I admin more than 40 groups on Flickr and honestly I would like to invite every new work of Yell in every group of mine; at same time Im happy to accept every photo she sends to my groups.
